I made the cake above in my last cake decorating class — Happy Independence Day!

Attached is my VERY first decorated cake from my Wilton Cake Decorating class. The class is fun, but there are some crazy ladies in there who are know-it-alls which can be very frustrating. Anyway, they all looked at me strange because my icing was not “white” and it was more cream colored. Well, I didn’t use Crisco — that’s why! I’m a purist… buttercream icing should use butter and not Butter Flavored Crisco. The End. Unless of course you’re a Vegan, and then I completely understand!!

I’m going to periodically update this section with recipes from my garden and local places I love to pick crops (and maybe a baking adventure or two)!
First and foremost… I SUCK at making pizza dough. I need some serious help. I use a stone, I make it thin, but somehow it ends up dense. OY. Any thoughts?

You’ll have to talk to my Matthew! He’s a pizza dork. And a little OCD about it. He uses the broiler to make a pretty delicious neapolitan pizza on a pizza stone in a conventional oven. I can probably snag his dough recipe, if you are interested!
