I moved up to the mountains to go back to school and found love, a road bike, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, and hiking. WHAT A MOVE!
Since I’m now living in the SW Virginia mountains, I decided it was time to grow my own vegetables — it seems that almost anything can grow here! As such, we plowed some land and planted some things. I’m doing this the highly unscientific way: trial and error. This blog follows me: a suburban Florida girl who grew up on eating out, Macy’s shopping and cheerleading as I attempt to try my hand at home grown veggies. As part of this “mountain me” I’m also baking from scratch, crocheting and trying to “buy local”! We even bought a 1/4 of cow at an all grass-fed organic farm. It was awesome!
The moniker for this “mountain me” is my alter-ego: Farmer Ran.
How does one go about buying a fourth of a cow exactly?
Well, we split a half a cow to be fair
You go to the local farm, and order what you want. We shared the front half of a cow and they butcher the meat into different cuts (filet, ground beef, sirloin, etc) and deep freeze it. Then, we got about 100+ pounds of vacuum frozen grass fed organic meat!
